· Well Registration Requirement – Pursuant to implementation of recent legislative changes, all existing water wells located within Benbrook, Texas, must be registered with the Benbrook Water Authority to comply with the Authority's new Water Well Rules. In addition, any persons interested in drilling a new well must register prior to drilling.

· Cost to Register Water Well – There is no cost or fee to register your existing well.

· Need for Well Registration:

(1) For Well Owners: To provide well owners with proof that their wells existed prior to the adoption of new regulations, so as to provide them with an exemption to certain regulations that only apply to new wells and an exemption to late filing penalties.

(2) For the Authority: To enable the Authority to conserve and manage the groundwater resources in the Benbrook area and protect our public water supply, the Authority needs to first identify all water wells and demands on the groundwater in our area.

· Deadlines for Well Registration – The deadline for water well owners to register their existing water wells depends upon the type of well that needs to be registered.

Nonexempt wells must be registered and file a permit application by June 13, 2006.

Exempt** wells must be registered by March 15, 2007.

** Exempt wells (exempt from permitting) are those used solely to provide water for a home or for livestock or poultry and which are not capable of producing more than 25,000 gallons of groundwater per day. IF YOU ARE UNCERTAIN WHETHER YOUR WELL IS EXEMPT, YOU SHOULD REGISTER YOUR WELL BY THE JUNE 13, 2006, DEADLINE OR CALL THE AUTHORITY AT (817) 249-1250 TO OBTAIN TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO DETERMINE IF YOUR WELL IS EXEMPT.

· Availability of Well Registration Forms – Well registration forms and permit applications are available on the Authority's website at www.bwsa.org. Forms may also be obtained at the Authority's offices at 1121 Mercedes Street, Benbrook, Texas, 76126 during the normal business hours for the Authority's offices – 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday thru Thursday and 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday.

· Assistance – If you need any assistance in obtaining the registration forms or completing the forms, please call the Authority's office at (817) 249-1250 and ask for the technical staff or come by the Authority's offices during its normal business hours.
