EPA DISINFECTION BYPRODUCTS RULE 2

Benbrook Exposes Deceptive U.S. EPA Research

The Benbrook Water Authority (BWA) Board of Directors has challenged the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Disinfection Byproduct Regulation imposed during 2008-2010.  The United States has been treating water using disinfectants since 1908.  Water treatment professionals and civil engineers unanimously agree that the EPA has no evidence that this new regulation is necessary.  Water plants across Texas have spent millions on compliance, needlessly driving up the cost of our water.

There is no verifiable research that confirms drinking water disinfectant byproducts has caused birth defects and bladder cancer as claimed by the EPA.  For justification the EPA points to what they describe as a “difficult and incomplete empirical analysis of epidemiology and toxicology studies”.  The EPA simply made an assumption that drinking water was a probable cause of these health conditions.  They did not account for other probable causes such as diet, heredity or life-style choices in their empirical analysis.  Not one case of these maladies has ever been linked to drinking water as the cause.

U.S. EPA powers have become reminiscent of organized crime protection rackets, shaking down American businesses and taxpayers.  New environmental regulations for water, air, ethanol and others are not supported by science.  The EPA relies on data and opinions provided by environmental groups which are then reviewed and approved by like-minded peers.  Our research confirmed that the EPA has no competent, reliable oversight.  The EPA is out of control.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott has filed legal challenges against the EPA’s new green-house, air quality regulations noting that they are based upon environmental green-house dogma, not science.   No verifying independent research was conducted or sought by the EPA.  Unfortunately, a legal solution may take years while Americans waste billions on senseless regulation, further damaging our economy.

The costly water regulation issue has remained under the radar until now.  We are appealing to the North Texas delegation of U.S. Congressional Representatives to mobilize a combined congressional challenge to overreaching, unjustified EPA air and water regulations.

Although cautioned not to raise the ire of the EPA, the BWA Board of Directors is determined to not waste the public treasure on another EPA shake-down.  Other water districts have been reluctant to risk EPA retribution.  Political support is solidified by numbers.  We encourage all who agree, to join our EPA challenge by appealing to your elected representatives.  A record of our correspondence is linked bellow for reference.
